The Row Fall 2010

Photobucket
photos: style.com

Despite the fact that I cannot help but be reminded of Chloe when I look at The Row's NYC Fashion Week debut, I still am utterly in love with it. I love the simplicity and sophistication in this collection which Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen have certainly pulled off with aplomb. The sheer fabrics, leathers and luxe coats. It was well edited, classy and at the risk of sounding cliche~ absolutely chic.

Alexa Chung for Madewell (aka whatiWANTrightnow)

If there was one celebrity whose foray into fashion design I have eagerly anticipated, it would be Alexa Chung. There's something about her own sense of style, eclectic British school girl - always full of spunk, that made me wonder how she'd fare if she were to do her own clothing line. Apparently, the fashion gods.. or in this case, the lovely folks at Madewell were thinking the same thing. Quite a perfect pair these two make, dont you think?

Photobucket

Whilst there is nothing groundbreaking in the collection itself, it is chockful of pieces that are bound to be loved for a very long time. All of which are a reflection of Alexa's own well-loved style. Think preppy, peter pan collars, highwaisted jeans, girly dresses, oversized shirts with Alexa's own doodles on it, and feminine blouses all topped off with cozy looking knits and coats. The stuff of nostalgia. Very practical but not lacking in whimsy, I reckon.

And to quote a bit from Alexa's interview in style.com “I want to bring back forties tea dresses, sixties mod dresses.... I want to bring cute back.” Indeed, she has. Cute, laidback and effortless makes for a truly wonderful debut collection.

NYC FALL 2010: A Detacher, Chris Benz and Marc Jacobs

Photobucket

Oh My Knits! The chunkier, the bigger.. the better. How can you not love A Detacher's Fall 2010 collection? Everything was just sooo.. cozy. Hello thick, liquidy, drapey dresses! I kind of love you. Sweater dresses.. crochet.. yes, please. I could sooo (iam soooo overusing that woooord) be rolling around in the hay somewhere whilst wearing these.. or I could just be sitting at home, reading a book and sipping on tea whilst.. say.. wearing look #4. Yes, plaid knitted sweater.. you.

Photobucket

My first thought was.. style.com must be having some kind of momentary glitch. This looks like a resort collection. But it aint!! and that's the best bit about it. Color! So my foray into color for fall is underway, obviously. How can one resist it though? When it's served up in such a delectable way. Ah Chris Benz. You make mi heart all a-skippy. (is that even a word?)

This could easily have turned into a Marc Jacobs post. Seriously. I may not be thrilled about the looks that used fur but I pretty much adored everything else. Sometimes, its not always about pushing the boundaries of fashion.. sometimes its about nostalgia and creating clothes that touch people. I think he succeeded in doing just that. I mean, this could've easily been tacky.. really.. but this just goes to show how great of a designer Marc Jacobs really is.

NYC FALL 2010: Boy by Band of Outsiders, Philosophy, Rebecca Taylor and Suno

Photobucket

Boy by Band of Outsiders is always, always a Fashion Week fave. They just never disappoint, me thinks. Its great storytelling through clothes without it becoming costumey or tacky. I kept on imagining this fresh-out-of-college girl/woman who's interning at a publication somewhere in suburbia and showing off her inner colorful self through the way she dresses whilst still keeping everything "office" friendly. Ah yes.

Photobucket

I would love to have the entire Philosophy di Alberta Ferreti collection, please and thank you. The juxtaposition of the structured trenches with the light and floaty dresses just made my heart skip a beat. The colors! The black lace numbers! The girly frocks paired with those tough black boots! I want.

Photobucket

Rebecca Taylor's collection was absolute love as well. A little bit boho, a bit rock and roll... simply sweet, overall. Whilst I was more partial to her day looks-- those sweaters are just.. YUM-- I did love her structured and plumed dresses that were both in that powdery sort of color that I tend to fall head over heels for.

WOW. I think that was the first word that came to mind when I checked out the photos of Suno's fall 2010. Wow = very good. Iam not a big fan of crazy, colorful prints but there's something about the way they styled the pieces that made me covet every single one. Id even give the hairstyle a try if it'd help me pull off this print extravaganza.

What Im Lovin Now: Dresses

See by Chloe // Stella McCartney

Ive quite a bunch of events coming up that calls for a bit of dressing up. So I figured, what better way to get inspired than peruse through Net a Porter's current selection of delectable dresses, right? This could've easily been a Marchesa post. They just make the loveliest frocks but they are way too dressy to suit the occasion. Nonetheless, Ive rounded up some of my current favorites sans a few that I couldnt get a photo of. I really like the Stella McCartney dress but if I had to choose one favorite, it would have to be the Vivienne Westwood Red Label dress. I just adore how it falls and the polka dots are too much fun to pass up.

NYC FALL 2010: Jenny Kayne, Tess Giberson and Julian Louie

NY Fashion Week! My favorites so far? Jenny Kayne, Tess Giberson and Julian Louie. I really like the first two because of the garçonne feel of their collections. Im a really big fan of comfortable dressing that doesnt end up looking sloppy. Needless to say, I like clothes that fit well without looking too prim and proper. I think the first two collections totally fit that bill.

Julian Louie, on the other hand, satisfies my need for frocks that are pretty but arent drowning in ruffles and lace. The colors are just lovely! The entire collection, I thought, was just pulled together so well. I would love to have everything in it! (Well, that is if I had the means to..) There were a lot of special but really wearable pieces that, surely, would receive plenty of love.

Am I looking forward to more from NYFW? Most definitely!

Rest In Sweet Repose, Monsieur McQueen

There is no doubt that many are mourning the loss of one of fashion's greats, Alexander McQueen. I have, as Iam sure we all have, learned to synonimize his name with romanticism, theatricality and infallible fashion story telling. Whilst his more futuristic creations as of late are certainly amazing, I still am more in love with his past collections that oozed of gothic, edwardian, medieval references. All of which are truly, truly creations of wonder. So, here's a look back at my favorite collections from the dreamweaver himself.

A Weaver of Clothing Fairytales: Aski Kataski

One of the most common questions that often come up whenever my friends and I talk about clothes would be: "If you could only wear one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be?" Now, that is a tough one to answer. Whilst I may not have a an answer for that question just yet, there is one designer that I would certainly consider. Who is it? Dear reader, I present to you, Aski Kataski.

The texture and color is an absolute feast for the eyes! Dont you just love how everything looks quite worn (in a good way!) and comfy? Let's not forget those gorgeous leather jackets that look so soft, they'd probably just melt over your shoulders. Like chocolate. Yes, indeedy.

JULIETTE HOGAN Spring 09: "Some Other Time..."

Summer. Dresses. Color. Sand on your feet. The sun peeking from behind trees and clouds. Road trips. Just the thought of summer could bring back so many happy thoughts. Summer is also my favorite season for dresses. I always find that summer collections bring me endless joy when it comes clothing. So I figured, what better way to kick things off than to share that love with you? My current invisible (though I know you're out there!) visitors.

So what makes a frock absolutely appealing to me? Its the details. Pleats, a ruffle here, a ruffle there, an eye catching hemline or neckline, the fabric, the color! Ah, truly. These are the things that capture my attention before I take in the whole itself.

Anyway, without any further interruptions, I present to you the first serving of "Designer Desserts" (because I cannot think of a more appropriate name for it) wherein I feature a collection from one particular designer that Iam absolutely smitten with. To start things off, here are my favorites from Juliette Hogan's Spring 09 Collection: "Some other time..."

Dont you just adore the colors on these? The pale pinks, creams, corals, steel, greens.. blacks and greys. They are all so deliciously easy on the eyes. But the thing that I love the most would be the fact that the individual pieces look totally lovely by themselves but when styled together, it doesnt look overdone. There's a refreshing ease to every look... just like a perfect summer morning, dont you think?
